What’s the difference between wind chimes and wind bells?
The main difference between wind chimes and wind chime bells is their design.
Wind chimes produce sound through specially-tuned tubes that knock against one another and against a clapper in the middle of the tubes. Wind bells feature one large tube that contains a hanging bell in its centre. Wind bells produce a sound when the bell knocks against the surrounding tube.
While wind chimes can be activated manually by moving the windcatcher at the bottom of the chime, they’re mainly controlled by the wind. Wind bells are also wind-activated but can be used manually, which gives them a dual purpose as both a hanging ornament and a stylish doorbell alternative.
Are wind bells easy to clean?
Yes, our range of Woodstock Wind Bells is made with easy-to-clean brass, aluminium and steel.
Aluminium and steel wind chime bells can be quickly and easily cleaned by simply wiping the bells with a soft, damp cloth. We recommend using a very mild soap and water solution if your bell has accumulated stubborn dirt or grime. Avoid using harsh scrubbers like brushes or textured sponges.
You’ll need to use a brass cleaner to clean your brass wind chime bells. Without regular cleaning, your brass will develop a natural patina over time that will give it an aged appearance — however, many brass wind chime owners prefer the antique look of aged brass and intentionally keep cleaning to a minimum to achieve this style.
Where should I hang my wind chime bells?
Wind chime bells are commonly used as an alternative doorbell and are often hung at the front door of the home. While wind bells are wind-activated, they can also be rung manually by controlling the attached windcatcher at the bottom of the bell.
Wind bells are also a great addition to outdoor settings including patios and decks. They can be hung anywhere on the exterior of your home with the right equipment and can even be hung from trees, giving you plenty of hanging options for your garden.
Wherever you hang your wind bell, always double-check that it is securely placed and won’t collide with any surrounding walls, pillars or other hanging items during harsh winds. This will reduce the risk of damaging your wind bell.
While wind chimes are often used inside, we don’t recommend wind bells for indoor use. Their rich, deep tones are better suited for outdoor areas where the sound can travel further and won’t overwhelm your space.

What is your return policy?
We want all our customers to be satisfied with their new wind bells. We accept change-of-mind returns and returns for damaged/faulty items under the following conditions.
Change-of-mind returns — If you change your mind about your wind bell, you can return it within 30 days of receiving your delivery. We’ll provide a store credit for the cost of the item, excluding the cost of shipping. You will be responsible for the cost of returning your item to our warehouse.
Items returned to us must be in their original condition, including their original packaging. We do not accept change of mind returns for clearance items, gift cards, commercial orders or items specially ordered for you.
Returning damaged or faulty items — To return a damaged or faulty item, contact us within three days of receiving your order. We require information about your order, the perceived damage or fault and any photos or videos of the damage or fault.
Depending on the type of fault, we may offer to send you a replacement part, provide instructions for a self-repair, arrange for a local repair, replace the item, or offer you a refund.
